The trademark examination period will be cut to 10 months

    Li Jianchang, director general of the Trademark Bureau of General State Administration of Industry and Commerce, announced at the press conference held by News Office of State council that the General State Administration of Industry and Commerce on 29th that 1.4 million cases on trademark examination would be completed in this year according to the predetermined target and the examination period would be shorten to one year so that the backlog problem might be resolved completely. The bureau would spare no efforts to cut the examination period to ten months in the following two years, aiming to achieve the internationally advanced level.

   According to Li Jianchang, in 2009, the amount of trademark application hit a historic high of 834,700 and the amount of trademark examination was 1,410,500, which meant that the such amount equaled to that completed in 5 years in the past; moreover, the examination period was cut from 30 months to 17 months and aimed at to be 10 months after two years, thus achieving an internationally advanced level.

     The statistical data shows that the accumulated total amount of trademark registration applications in China is up to 7.22 million and the amount of already-registered trademarks is 4.27 million, with the annual trademark application amount being 830,000, ranking No. 1 in the world. On the other hand, the amount of overseas enterprises applying for trademarks in China through the Madrid Agreement is 142,800, maintaining the position of the first in the world for a five successive years.
